What's in Phase 2?
Once funded, Phase 2 plans to renovate 75% –the rest of the library–and add a significant expansion to the building.
Designs include a new Children’s Center, new Children's program room, new Teen Room, new small study rooms, new conference rooms, new flooring, furniture, and lightning throughout, plus necessary updates across the entire building.
But, our library needs your help to bring you Phase 2.
Progress So Far
Designs for the New FLPL are based entirely on the community feedback that created the library's new strategic plan. You told us what you wanted and we listened!
The $2,350,000 cost of Phase 1 is fueled by a generous grant from the NJ State Library Capital Projects Fund and the use of Library reserves. The first part of our Library’s renovation and construction may soon be underway.
Phase 1 of our renovation project will modernize and improve about 28% of the existing library and is expected to start early 2025. The library expects to remain open during this time.
A full list of FAQs and more renovation information is available from the Fort Lee Library's Renovation website.
How much is Phase 2?
Phase 2 has an estimated total cost of $5,228,000. Fort Lee Borough has committed to ensuring the future of the Library by pledging $1,000,000, and the Library is actively seeking construction grants. After the Library and Borough’s financial commitments, there is still an estimated $4,200,000 to be raised.
Donations to the Friends of the Library from Fort Lee & Englewood Cliffs residents, patrons, and all visitors can make Phase 2 possible.
